How to figure out if an SEO company is a fake

Nowadays, there are many companies on the internet claiming to be SEO experts. You can be sure that some of those companies are, indeed, excellent at search engine optimization. However, there are many companies making that claim that are actually fake SEO experts.

  • If the company you are considering working with pays a lot of attention to building great meta keywords. That might sound strange, but there are still companies claiming that this approach actually is a key to good SEO. It isn't.
  • If the company is offering huge search engine submission options. Submissions to search engines will not do much for your website. It is better if search engines can discover you on other websites linking back to you.
  • The Companies that recommend 302 redirects for any reason. 302 redirects are just a way to delete anything a domain has earned on search engine ratings and any hard work that might have been done for that purpose would just be lost. A bad idea... a really bad idea.
  • If one of the main focuses of the SEO company is link swapping. Link swapping is a good way to start, but is should never be a fundamental part of a website's search engine optimization.
  • If you get the feeling that the SEO company uses identical ways to build links for any client they have, avoid that company like the plague, because for different types of businesses, the same strategy in building links is nonsense and has no real effect.
  • If the SEO company is recommending micro sites as a tool to get a higher ranking, don't believe them. You might end up being penalized and there are few situations in which it is better to put content on other domains. In all other cases, it is always better to use same domain. Don't forget that by adding new domains with its separate content requires you to advertise and do all SEO as well, or else it will have no value. It is always much easier if content is kept within one domain.
  • If you get advice from the SEO company that it promotes running the same content on more than one domain. This also is a bad way to make good SEO and there is never a real need for it. Even if you are changing your domain name, this will not help you keep the same search engine ranking as the old domain.
  • Whenever you get a feeling that any advice might just be a trick, it usually is. There are no tricks available that will work and won't get your domain penalized.
  • Any company claiming to possess knowledge of the Google algorithm. To say something like that would be extremely foolish, especially considering the fact that not even Matt Cutts knows the entire algorithm of the Google search engine. Every search engine has numerous sets of algorithms that make it work the way it is meant to work. Google's algorithm is certainly one of the most complex and it would be really hard to believe that there is anyone who knows all of them. Also, consider this: Even if there were someone within the Google company that knew all of the algorithms, that someone would surely not share his knowledge with any outside company.
  • Any SEO company that would promise the #1 rank. That is nearly impossible, because there is really no one that can guarantee such a rank. No matter what your web site does, there are surely many others that do the same thing. Any good SEO company can make a good ranking, and that will help your website and company grow. The focus of a website's search engine optimization should be to help your website grow and have more traffic. Believing you will get to be #1 will only lead to disappointment.
  • If an SEO expert company is not willing to tell you what it is that they are doing, it usually means that either the company is doing nothing or the company is doing something bad and that’s why they avoid explaining anything.
